Tour with the Pros

The 2010 Tour de France is being eagerly anticipated and Great Explorations will again be offering the opportunity to experience the greatest cycling race on the planet, cycling sections of the most thrilling stages, often just hours before the pros and then watching as the peleton passes from privileged positions. In 2010, we will ensure that you have the opportunity to see at least 4 stages.

Great Explorations has been recognized as one of two certified official operators of the Tour de France in 2010 and our partnership level will include warm-up access at the departure and technical zone visit (with media, broadcasters etc.) at a stage finish; these credentials will give you unparalleled access to see teams up close and have the chance to meet your favorite riders (this area is fenced off from all except those with credentials). In addition you will benefit from Great Explorations’ decade of experience in offering trips to the Tour de France.

Accommodations (2010 trip)

Group 1: Yellow Jersey US$3650pp

Residence Des Thermes, Bagneres de Bigorre
This 3-star hotel directly faces the Grand Thermes in the historical center of Bagneres. There is a charming café on the main floor and everything in Bagneres is a short stroll away. We stay in Bagneres because it is a cyclist’s mecca and is one of the most beautiful villages in the Pyrenees.

Hotel Burdigala, Bordeaux
Named after the original town of Bordeaux, this 5 star luxury hotel has comfortable rooms. Frommers guidebook says, “This is the best and most appealing hotel in Bordeaux's core; well-manicured, tasteful, and experienced at welcoming international travelers..”

4-star hotel, Paris
Our hotel is steps away from the legendary Champs-Elysées and the finish loop of the Tour de France, Paris stage. We’re the only tour operator with rooms at the same hotel as the pros; if rubbing elbows with pro riders after they have finished the grand boucle doesn’t give you bragging rights, we don’t know what will!

Group 2: Green Jersey US$3450pp

Hotel Saint-Vincent, Bagneres de Bigorre

Located in the center of this pretty village, the family-owned and managed hotel has modest but charming rooms, and delightful restaurant. We stay in Bagneres because it is a cyclist’s mecca and is one of the most beautiful villages in the Pyrenees.

Group 3: Polka dot Jersey US$3250pp

Hotel Le Tivoli, Bagneres de Bigorre
Located 300 meters away from the Grand Thermes, this hotel is charming with modest rooms and a large shaded park where dinner is served in summer. Walk to everything in town. We stay in Bagneres because it is a cyclist’s mecca and is one of the most beautiful villages in the Pyrenees.

La Tour Intendance, Bordeaux
The location, in the historical center of Bordeaux, of this 3-star boutique hotel is superb. The NY Times wrote, “This hotel is both rustic and chic, like a chateau transplanted in cosmopolitan soil. Many of the 26 rooms combine Old World details like rough stone walls and parquet floors with modern amenities like flat screen televisions and sleek bathrooms.”

Hotel Brighton,
Paris
There are only 3 hotels on the finish loop of the final stage in Paris and our 4-star hotel is one of them. We have rooms with balconies directly overlooking the route (see photo on itinerary page). A Great Explorations exclusive!
